Update on the Patentability of Software – Approaching the Anniversary of Alice
5:00-6:00 PM

When the Supreme Court invalidated the software claims at issue in the Alice case almost one year ago, many considered it to be the death-knell for software-related inventions. Since then, applicants have encountered increased difficulty obtaining patents on software-related inventions, and patentees have faced many more subject matter eligibility challenges at the District Courts and at the PTAB. After the initial wave of patents invalidated under Alice, however, the impact of Alice is proving to be far more nuanced.

This CLE seminar will feature Administrative Patent Judge Peter Chen in the Silicon Valley USPTO, Travis Thomas, Department Chair of the IP Group in Baker Botts Palo Alto, and Hogene Choi, Senior Associate in the IP Group in Baker Botts Palo Alto. 1.0 hour of California MCLE credit is being approved.

Networking Reception with John Cabeca, the Director of the Silicon Valley Office of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office
6:00-8:30 PM

Join us to hear Director Cabeca speak about current affairs at the USPTO, performance metrics, and progress on setting up the Silicon Valley Office.

This event is sponsored by and hosted at Baker Botts, 1001 Page Mill Road, Building One, Suite 200, Palo Alto, CA 94304.
