Director, Associate General Counsel (Creative Cloud) - Adobe

Join the team that provides legal counsel to the product teams at Adobe responsible for developing and marketing some of Adobe's most well-known products and online services, including the Adobe Creative Cloud. Adobe is seeking a talented and energetic lawyer to lead and work alongside the legal team that supports our Creative Cloud business.  This position is a Director, Associate General Counsel level role and will manage a team of attorneys and paralegals and work closely with senior management, product management, business development, program management, engineering, business strategy and marketing teams, as well as a variety of subject matter experts in our Legal department to provide counseling on a wide range of legal topics to advance business objectives while appropriately managing risk.

What you’ll do

  • Manage team of attorneys and paralegals that support the Adobe Creative Cloud business; provide mentoring, leadership, and be a resource for the team; ensure execution with proper sense of urgency and drive accountability

  • Apply a practical and well-balanced perspective to legal issues that arise when developing, marketing, licensing, and distributing products and services

  • Advise on compliance with US and international laws and regulations dealing with consumer protection, e-commerce, marketing, privacy, and security

  • Develop various guidelines for the teams that we support, including on topics like AI and machine learning and the proper stewardship of content and data

  • Coordinate with subject matter experts in Adobe Legal, including privacy, antitrust, and patents to analyze legal risks

  • Support and build positive relationships with Adobe’s product development teams and advise multiple levels of management on legal issues

  • Provide strategic and business legal support for internal clients, including counseling, negotiation and drafting of agreements and other legal documents

  • Identify, scope, and assign projects

  • Advise business, technical, and Legal colleagues on a broad range of legal subjects; advise clients of rights, obligations and risks, and provides interpretation of terms and conditions

  • Manage cross-functional matters, and influence policy-making

  • Think and act strategically towards the business, role, team, and priorities

  • Develop solutions to non-standard business and legal issues with senior management review

  • Consistently identify and communicate process gaps and other change opportunities; and foster environment so that others can identify new ideas, methods and processes

What you need to succeed

  • 10+ years of relevant in-house legal experience, with a predominant focus on supporting software products

  • Significant experience supporting online services, e-commerce, marketing, and consumer protection matters across many jurisdictions around the world

  • Five years of firm experience is preferred

  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing direct reports

  • Expert at negotiating and drafting all types of technology licensing agreements including in-bound licenses, out-bound licenses (such as mobile app EULAs), online services agreements, and terms of use for online services

  • Demonstrated ability to succinctly framing complex legal issues and communicating effectively with multiple levels of management

  • CIPP and CISSP certifications are pluses

  • Must work well on a team and with people at all levels in the organization

  • Commitment to providing clients with high-quality and timely legal advice in a fast-paced work environment, with a strong customer focus

  • Demonstrated abilities to think and act strategically, be a creative problem solver, have excellent business instincts, and drive to provide practical solutions with appropriate sense of urgency
