2017 APABA SILICON VALLEY EQUAL JUSTICE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
Jaya is a 2L at Santa Clara Law pursuing a career in child advocacy. She is proud to be born and raised in San Mateo. Jaya received her Bachelor's Degree from UCLA in Political Science with a minor in English. She lived and taught English in Jilong, Taiwan after graduating, then moved to Portland, Oregon to work at a civil litigation firm. Since returning to the Bay Area in 2016, Jaya has volunteered with APABA Silicon Valley, Santa Clara Law's Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA) and Vietnamese American Law Students (VALS), and the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund. She worked in the Juvenile Justice unit at the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office during her 1L summer, representing the Bay Area Minority Summer Clerkship Program. Jaya is APALSA's Community Service Chair and the Family Law Society's Communications Chair at Santa Clara. Jaya hopes to increase minority exposure to legal education, reform education legislation, and promote rehabilitative criminal justice. In her free time, she enjoys watching "Judge Judy" with her grandma and reading hornbooks poolside.
